SONS OF THE WIND
A present-day Silver Brumby play-by-post role-playing game!

Sons of the Wind is a wild horse RPG set in the Australian Snowy Mountains, roughly in the present, fifty years after Thowra, the original Silver Brumby, roamed his kingdom. The Silver Herd has become a somewhat Mafia-like organisation, spreading throughout the entire mountains, so that a Silver-affiliated horse might have friends - as well as enemies - around every corner. But secrecy is still the Herd's top priority, and as the aging silver stallion Barega, the last King of the Cascades, leaves the Cascades under the rule of his two sons, trouble arises again for the Silver Herd.

Waiirri and Morang, the Sky Stallions, half-brothers and young princes of the Cascades, have more than enough on their hooves as stallions notice the absence of Barega and start filing into the Herd's territory in the hopes of claiming it - and the Herd's beautiful mares and fillies - for themselves. A few fillies are stolen, and even Ash and Leena, sisters to the Sky Stallions and their favourite mares, are not safe. Marauders turn up every time the Sky Stallions and their allies leave the safety of their hidden bimbles, and the silver horses are generally on edge. But with a few new friends in strategic places, the birth of more silver foals including the unexpected daughter of Ash, and the discovery of the long-lost Secret Valley, things start looking up for the Herd. Or do they? Not everyone is as pleased to see the Herd expanding as the secretive silver horses, and some feel only jealous fury at the thought of the breathtaking silver foals. And those ancient ones who could have aided the Sky Stallions in taking back their kingdom, who could have taught the young princes the secrets that they would need to prevail and become a part of the mystery of the bush, are vanishing, lost to Time... even Barega is getting too old to fight, blinded in one eye and ravaged by the depression of losing some of his beloved mares in falling snow a few years back. It is up to the new generations to take back what was once the right of those who galloped these ranges before them.

As the Silver Herd spreads its influence throughout the National Park, more horses realise the advantage organisation brings the Herd, and some try to band together themselves, but with so many antagonistic stallions about, sometimes these alliances are a little shaky to say the least. But that does not mean these stallions can not cause trouble for the Silvers - most certainly not. The bush has become a war zone, and no lone wanderer can be completely safe.

The North - To the Tumut region: Numeramang, the Eucumbene, Ravine and more - this is also where the Valley of the Caves is hidden, known only to the rare breeds of the Sun and Moon. This area featured in the books Moon Filly, Silver Brumby Whirlwind and Son of the Whirlwind, and was the main region focussed on in the Brumby Racer books as far as I can remember.

Mt Jagungal and the Main Range - The Northern Route - the high, cloud-wreathed plateaus, Grey Mare, the imposing Mt Jagungal, and more. This area featured in Silver Brumby's Daughter, Silver Brumby Whirlwind and Son of the Whirlwind.

The Cascades and Ramshead Range - The Cascades, Dead Horse Gap, the Brindle Bull, the Crackenback, the Murray river, the Leatherbarrel Valley, the Ramshead Range and the glacial lakes (Blue Lake, Club Lake, etc), Paddy Rush's Bogong... and Thowra's Secret Valley, plus many more places very familiar to the Silver Brumby fan or anyone who loves the Australian Alps. This area featured in The Silver Brumby, Silver Brumby's Daughter, Son of the Whirlwind, Brumbies of the Night, Dancing Brumby, Dancing Brumby's Rainbow, The Thousandth Brumby and Wild Echoes Ringing, but is also described with Mrs Mitchell's usual magic in Kingfisher Feather and Winged Skis.

Stockwhip Territory - Stockwhip Gap, Stockwhip Hill, the Moyangul, the Ingegoodbee, the Tin Mine, Dale's Creek, and more. This area featured in Silver Brumbies of the South, Silver Brumby Kingdom, Dancing Brumby, Brumbies of the Night, The Thousandth Brumby and Wild Echoes Ringing.

The South - Quambat Flat, The Pilot, the Pilot Wilderness Area, Suggan Buggan... you know the area if you have read Silver Brumbies of the South, Silver Brumby Kingdom, Dancing Brumby, Brumbies of the Night, The Thousandth Brumby and Wild Echoes Ringing.

I can't remember Silver Brumby, Silver Dingo well enough to say which territories it covers, since my copy was caught in a tragic fire several years ago and it is hard to find, but I have another on the way at last so soon I should be able to fix that. ^_~

The Out-Of-Character and Joining Board is where you can find out more about this game, or send in your profiles for approval to play. ALL NEW CHARACTERS MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE THEY CAN BE PLAYED ON THE IN-CHARACTER BOARDS!

However, at the moment, due to the health of the game owner packing up and moving to a different time zone and the mods having college to keep them away, Sons of the Wind will not be accepting new members/writers/players except by invitation, which can be negotiated with penniroyel on the OOC/Joining Board if you really want to play and write with us. But do not expect posts very often through these boards, they are no longer highly active, though we do post on them when we have the chance as we love our story. Also, do not apply if you are not willing to 1) wait for posts and adjust to the play-by-post continuum and timing, and the game rules. 2) Read the rules and backstory in the first place and possibly adjust your character a little to fit into the world of the game. 3) abide by genetic colour rules and stick to a mostly-realistic behaviour system (though talking is allowed, slang and human references are discouraged, as these are wild horses and other mountain creatures, and as such they do not watch Fox8). and 4) put some time and effort into your characters and posts. Part of the reason this game is no longer open for new writers is because too many people expected us to lower our standards for them, rather than putting in that little bit extra effort and helping us create something we can really be proud of. We will not destroy all our hard work and ignore the continuum we put years into making our online home, so that demon mares with red glowing eyes can start turning up and churning out one-line posts with more spelling and grammatical errors than one would normally expect from a goat with a typewriter. It is just NOT going to happen.

Thanks for looking at the Sons of the Wind webpage. This is a temporary page while a better one is being created, but time and other limitations may mean that the updated page will take a while longer than expected. If you are looking for a more active game, or one set in a more familiar Silver Brumby timespan with the original characters from the books, try Silver Brumby Kingdom or Heart of the Whirlwind.
